Every April 21, Indonesian celebrates the day of Raden Ajeng Kartini. Raden Ajeng Kartini is an Indonesian national hero who promoted gender equality in Indonesia. During her short life in the beginning of the nineteenth century, she tried hard to provide education for women. Through her letter she tried to convinced her Dutch friends that education for Javanese women was important so that they might become independent. Raden Ajeng Kartini. Upon the independence of Indonesia, the Indonesian government dedicated the date when she was born to her memorial. The main intention was actually to motivate Indonesian women to improve their knowledge and competence so that they may have good positions as their male fellows. Nowadays, the scope of the celebration of Raden Ajeng Kartini becomes wider. It promotes national identity. On that day, many people and students wear local traditional costumes. This year, St. Albertus Carmelite High School Malang also celebrated Raden Ajeng Kartini. All students and teachers were wearing their traditional costumes during their study time at school
