Fr. Albertus Magnus Herwanta Triwahju Noegraha O.Carm. was born in Yogyakarta on 19 November 1958. He grew up in a family who live with a strong Catholic faith. After completing his junior high school, he joined the Seminary Mertoyudan. On 7 July 1979 he joined the Carmelite Order as he entered the Carmelite Novitiate Regina Apostolorum in Batu. On July 16, 1981 he had his first profession, and on July 16, 1986 he made his solemn profession. He, then, was ordained as a Carmelite priest on July 12, 1987 in the Cathedral of Malang.
His first assignment was to work at the St. Albert Carmelite High School in Malang (1987 – 1990) together with Rm. Emmanuel Siswanto O.Carm. Subsequently in 1990 he was sent to study in the field of Education Management at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. He returned to Indonesia in 1995 and served as a teacher at St. Paul Carmelite High School Jember.
In 2002, after the death of Rm. Emmanuel Siswanto O.Carm. fr. Albertus was assigned to become the headmaster of St. Albert Carmelite High School Malang – a task which was not easy because he replaced a principal who had served there for more than 36 years and had been a truly legendary and loved by both teachers, employees, students and alumni. He did this task very well until he was elected as the General Councilor for the region of Asia-Australia-Oceania for the period of 2007-2013.
After completing his term, he decided to return to Indonesia. Starting from January 14, 2015 he serves as the Rector of the Catholic University of Widya Karya, Malang. He is currently also the Chairman of the Commission for Justice Peace and Integrity of Creation of the Province of Indonesia for the period of 2015- 2018.
