Fr. Dr. Cyprianus Verbeek O.Carm. was the Prior Provincial of the Dutch Province of the Carmelite Order when the province started its mission in Indonesia, especially in East Java. As soon as he accepted the mandate for the mission to East Java from Fr. Elias Maggenis O.Carm., the Prior General of that time, Fr. Cyprianus Verbeek O.Carm. tried to find Dutch Carmelites who were willing to be sent to the mission area. One of those who signed up for going to the mission was he, himself. Due to his assignments at the Dutch Province he could not go to Java, the new mission are. Through his writings and policies he supported the mission in Java. In one of his letter he wrote: “Dutch East Indies is where the Netherlands is obliged to pay off debts and replace many losses.” For him, the mission in Java is something important. Therefore, beside sending the Dutch Carmelites to East Java, he also held a fund-raising program, in cooperation with other congregations to support the mission in East Java. Moreover, he invited all members of the Carmelite province of the Netherlands to pray for the work of this mission. Because of his love for the mission in East Java, after the completion of his service as provincial, he was willing to accept the task as Mission Procure for 20 years.

Fr. Cyprianus Verbeek passed away in the Carmelite convent in Oss on April 3, 1949. At that time he was 81 years old, had professed for 57 years old and became a priest for 53 years.
